In < 5 years, kids won’t know how to use Google
The title says it all. But the end of google search is fast approaching.
In the same way kids don’t know how to use floppy disks or operate a telephone, the end of Google search is fast approaching.
Don’t say I didn’t call this one, because I have been saying it for years.
ChatGPT is just a much better search engine. People want to have a conversation, not parse through web results. People want to feel validated and have information clarified. People want their services to do some interpolation and cognitive work for them, not just spit out matching web results and this need will only continue to grow over the next few years.
It doesn’t help that Google itself has been going downhill for a decade now when it comes to search result quality.
With that said, I don’t think Google as a company is going anywhere. Besides their investments in AI, they still own google maps, cloud services, youtube, android, and a universe’s of amount of web and consumer data … but they will still likely have to go through an organizational transformation like Microsoft did last decade under Satya.
